The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — A New Category Might Solve This

As any major honors show approaches, there’s always an outcry to include additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and delight the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would board games, this being someone's personal cause. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: We need a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories successfully include many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these this year’s best games, each quite distinct: building puzzles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely in 2014
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Just some puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as the most-played games in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge game development, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
