PSG Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice late to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
