Larian Studios Unveil a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Yet
The anticipation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.

A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can anticipate more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
